OVERVIEW:
WUSC and its consortium partner, Canadian Leaders in International Consulting (CLIC), are implementing the Women’s Economic Linkages and Employment Development (WE LEAD) project in Jordan. WE LEAD, a project funded by Global Affairs Canada, aims to increase women’s empowerment for sustainable economic growth; this will be achieved through activities focusing on women’s employment by businesses and the reduction of gender-specific barriers to women entering into and remaining in the workforce. The WE LEAD project is being implemented over a period of four years, from March 7, 2017 to March 31, 2021 in three locations (East Amman, Irbid and Salt) in Jordan.

The Communications, Outreach, and Reporting Officer will play a crucial role within the WE LEAD team in refining and implementing the Communications Strategy. He/she will work as a technical resource for communications and outreach activities and reporting on lessons learned and project achievements. This position entails the development of social media and traditional communications tools, resources and training sessions for project staff and partner organizations. The Communications, Outreach, and Reporting Officer will be instrumental in developing national social media campaigns and community mobilization activities aimed at improving women’s access to employment, as well as child care and transportation services.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development and implementation of WE LEAD’s Communications Strategy and activities and ensure its alignment with the Gender Equality Strategy and overall project goals;
- Manage social media accounts and communications with stakeholders and partner organisations;
- Provide guidance and support in developing press releases, announcements and branding for campaigns, events and other activities
- Collaborate with members of the WE LEAD team to organize, coordinate, document and report on social marketing campaigns, awareness and outreach sessions on issues such as gender-based violence and equitable employment, and other project-related events and activities;
- Collaborate with key partner organizations to establish strategies for identifying appropriate communications procedures and outreach approaches, tools and methods, all of which ensure gender-inclusivity;
- Work closely with media coordinators at partner organisations to support them, through coaching and/or training sessions in the development of their communications plans, tools, and message distribution and content;
- Build and manage relationships with local media organizations and other key players.
- In partnership with the Gender Equality Officer, lead the development of national gender-sensitive social media campaigns on women’s empowerment, including economic opportunities, gender equality, gender-based violence, and mediation in the workplace;
- Document success stories and lessons learned on project achievements including gender equality and mainstreaming in the project;
- Identify role models and develop platforms for them to share their stories with target audiences; and
- Offer continual support to WE LEAD staff in drafting reports and other materials that are clear, well-structured and gender-sensitive.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- University level studies in media, public relations, international development and/or any other relevant field
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience as a communications or media outreach focal point, preferably for a non-profit organization
- Proven professional experience managing social media platforms and designing content, editing and writing case studies and success stories, and engaging with other types of reporting
- Experience developing and leading capacity-building activities and coaching sessions
- Experience leading or contributing to regional or national campaign initiatives
- Experience working under Global Affairs Canada guidelines and the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) is an asset
- Passion and commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment
- Excellent understanding of gender equality concepts, gender mainstreaming and use of gender-inclusive language and content in the media
- Strong analytical and research skills, combined with an ability for innovative thinking and creativity
- Commitment to local capacity building and the ability to engage local stakeholders in policy design and implementation
- Proven ability to work productively with a variety of stakeholders to run participatory processes and meet tight deadlines with an emphasis on producing quality products
- Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and softwares
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment
- Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate high levels of responsibility and multiple priorities
- Effective interpersonal and influencing skills, including the ability to build relationships, network, communicate and represent at a senior level
- Excellent networking and relationship-building skills
- Ability to speak Arabic is a valuable asset

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada between the age of 18-70.
- Departure date is contingent upon the timely completion of all administrative requirements (e.g. visa processes, medical clearance, police checks, travel documentation).
- With the support of the program, all volunteers shall undertake to make a minimum financial contribution of $1,500 for participating in the program.
