From February 2 to 8, 2020, Civil Society Organizations, communities and individuals across Canada are celebrating the 30th International Development Week (IDW) with Global Affairs Canada to highlight Canadian’s contributions to sustainable development around the globe. IDW is a chance for you to engage Canadians of all walks in life as well as diverse actors and stakeholders in international cooperation. Join us to learn more about – and contribute to – the efforts towards global sustainable development this IDW.
Established in 1991, International Development Week is a uniquely Canadian tradition. Referring to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the theme for IDW 2020, “Go for the Goals,” illustrates the idea of moving forward in a collaborative and positive way toward a better world. OCIC believes that all individuals and the communities they belong to are global citizens and catalysts of positive change. Together, we all can take action today.
About the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
“This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom… As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind.” – Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2015)
The 2030 Agenda is a holistic, 15-year goal framework with an ambitious set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Canada is one of the 193 UN member states that have adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015. However, we recognize that the history, language, and efforts towards sustainability and local-to-global partnerships go beyond this time frame. The decade of the 2020s is named “the Decade of Action.” To better achieve sustainable development, every world leader and individual have a role to play in building a future that truly leaves no one behind.
Check out the diverse events and activities hosted by OCIC and our members throughout IDW 2020 to learn more about key global issues and ways to get involved.
