Indigenous Issues are Election Issues

Event Details

Join the Amnesty International Toronto BHR/Indigenous Issues team on Thursday, September 26th for a night of solidarity with Indigenous Peoples.

We are celebrating the anniversary of the adoption of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples UNDRIP in September 2007. This year is election year in Canada and we don’t want to see another year of Indigenous issues being pushed aside. Indigenous issues are election issues!

Drop by the Amnesty International (AI) Toronto office (1992 Yonge St., 3rd floor) anytime between 5:00pm – 8:30pm to mark the occasion and to sign our letter addressed those running in the Federal Election asking them to support implementation of the UN Declaration. Time ran out to pass implementation legislation during the current session of Parliament. When Parliament resumes, we want to see implementation legislation reintroduced that will ensure that the laws of Canada are in harmony with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This is an important issue that needs decisive action now!

We will also have a variety of other actions in support of Indigenous rights in Canada. Light refreshments from local Indigenous caterer and more! Everyone is welcome!
