Rooftops Canada – Abri International: Two Board Members Wanted
Rooftops Canada – Abri International, a Canadian charitable organization, is the international program of Canada’s co-operative and social housing movements. We work with partners locally and globally to improve housing and build sustainable communities in the Global South by implementing rights-based human settlement policies, programs and projects. We are committed to promoting gender equality, eliminating all forms of inequality and discrimination, and involving Canadians in addressing poverty and inequality overseas. Our primary geographic focus is Sub-Saharan Africa. We will be celebrating 35 years of action in 2020.
Our current Directors represent Canadian co-op and social housing organizations. They are deeply committed to Rooftops Canada’s mission and have in-depth expertise in all aspects of housing development and management. We are looking for two people who are passionate about and experienced in international development to serve on our Board of Directors. Ideal candidates will have at least five to ten years of experience in international development management or governance, and an understanding of Canadian international assistance policy and programs. We would especially welcome knowledge of the broader grant and investment funding environment, and/or expertise in Canadian engagement, fundraising and communications.
The two Board positions will start in January 2020 for an initial three-year term (renewable once). Rooftops Canada’s Board has a minimum of eight members who direct its affairs working with the Executive Director to achieve its mission. The Board typically meets four times a year, including two in-person two-day meetings in Toronto in January and June. Board members also participate in task teams as needed and work with staff on outreach and education.
If you would like to join our Board, please submit a letter of interest and brief bio by 22 November 2019 to Barry Pinsky, ED, email@example.com. Rooftops Canada is committed to a Board that reflects the diversity of those in the co-op and social housing sector including people of all gender identities, people of colour, people living with disabilities, indigenous people and youth.
