Brief Description:

World Renew, an agency of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, is an International Development and Disaster Response organization with home offices based in Burlington, Ontario and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We recently reviewed our human resources department services and identified a need to strengthen staff care and compliance for nurturing a healthy organizational culture. World Renew is currently looking to hire a Human Resources Specialist - Capacity Building and Organizational Culture to be based in our Burlington, Ontario office. This position supports a key organizational value for people flourishing. The purpose of this position is to give oversight to implementing policies and training initiatives that ensure staff serve in a workplace that is safe and with healthy, respectful relationships. This includes encouraging the implementing of safeguarding policies, including a Complaints Policy across the breadth of organization. To do this well, this position will focus on organizing training, coaching and compliance in areas such as ensuring staff knowledge of human resources policies and procedures (at all levels), developing skills for handling complaints and investigations with staff focal points and accessing resources for enhancing staff wellbeing.

Responsibilities:

Staff Capacity and Safeguarding
a. Serve as Safeguarding and Complaints Coordinator
b. Developing a strategy and training materials on human resources policies and procedures appropriate for a variety of audiences including but not limited to; general orientation for new staff, Complaints Focal Points, Partners;
c. Strengthening capacity and knowledge of key staff on addressing relationship challenges, including complaints handling procedures to enable effective response to complaints. This includes support to team leaders on using appropriate mechanisms for their context.
d. Coaching Country Directors on “high capacity indicators for human resources”, including their selection and support for Safeguarding and Complaints Focal Points.
e. Providing ongoing training to Safeguarding and Complaints Focal Points on handling complaints, in general and in specific cases as requested.
f. In collaboration with other CRC agency representatives, convene and/or participate in a safeguarding learning group to surface existing promising practices
g. Pursuing training opportunities for one’s own capacity to ensure knowledge and practices are relevant and up-to-date within complaint handling, PSEA etc.
h. Strengthen understanding and application of data and privacy policies
Handle complaints as per World Renew Complaints and Incidents guidelines
Staff Care and Wellbeing
a. Revising and recommending policies, procedures and standards that affect staff care and healthy organizational culture. This could include participating in policy revisions.
b. Organizing training opportunities and resources that strengthen team-building, crucial accountability skills, restorative practice and other interventions for integrating organizational values
c. Organizing training opportunities and resources that strengthen staff skills for stress management, work-life balance, trauma healing and good self-management
Perform other duties as assigned.
These may include such tasks as supporting recruitment efforts during peak times, supporting with human resource development projects and covering tasks during absence of other human resources staff.

Additional Information:
-At least a bachelor’s degree, in human resources, international development, political science or related specialty
-At least 3 years-experience is required in aspect of nurturing organizational culture such as developing policies, implementing team-building training strategies, developing complaints handling, management of investigations, compliance and/or safeguarding interventions
-Experience working with vulnerable populations
-Minimum two years of work experience is required in HR related training and/or coaching
