Midwives save lives when……

According to the UN, “since 1990, the world has seen a 44 per cent decline in maternal mortality rates. But despite this progress, some 830 women still die every day from causes related to pregnancy or childbirth. It’s about a woman every two minutes. And for every woman who dies, 20 or 30 are victims of injuries, infections or disabilities. Most of these deaths and injuries are entirely preventable.

In May, we celebrate the work of midwives, which is essential to reduce risks to mothers and babies in many countries. In preparation for the International Women Deliver Forum in Vancouver in June, this live webinar will open reflection on the efforts of midwives from the DRC to Canada as part of the “Midwives Save Lives” project of Cuso International, the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM-ACSF) and four national midwives’ associations in Benin, Tanzania, Ethiopia and the DRC.

Panelists :
– Astrid Bucio, Technical Advisor on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health – Cuso International
– Kirsty Bourret – Midwife, member of the Canadian Association of Midwives and volunteer in the “Midwives Save Lives” project
– Ambrocckha Kabeya, President Société Congolaise de la Pratique Sage-Femme (SCOSAF)
